Hello, you are welcome to my podcast Wisdom Seeds. I am Pastor Steve Olofa. Stay blessed as you listen to this episode.
[00:00:31] Speaker B: Wisdom. Seeds.
[00:00:33] Speaker C: Org.
[00:00:34] Speaker B: How to Overcome Doubt and Strengthen youn Faith Today we are talking about something many Christians experience but are often afraid to discuss doubt.
Perhaps you have asked, does God really hear my prayers?
Why is God allowing this to happen?
Can I really trust the Bible?
Why do I feel so far from God?
Am I truly saved?
What if my faith is not strong enough?
If you have ever asked questions like these, you are not alone.
Many sincere believers have experienced seasons of doubt.
[00:01:08] Speaker C: The important thing is not to pretend that doubt does not exist.
The important thing is to know what to do when doubt comes.
Today we will look at how to overcome doubt and strengthen your faith according to the Bible.
[00:01:25] Speaker B: One. Understand that doubt does not mean your faith is gone.
[00:01:28] Speaker C: One of the first things you need
[00:01:30] Speaker B: to understand is that experiencing doubt does not automatically mean you have lost your faith.
[00:01:35] Speaker C: In Mark 9, a father brought his suffering son to Jesus.
When Jesus challenged him to believe, the man cried, I do believe. Help me overcome my unbelief.
[00:01:45] Speaker B: What an honest prayer this man believed.
[00:01:50] Speaker C: 111 but he also struggled.
He had faith, but his faith was not perfect.
He brought both his faith and his doubt to Jesus.
[00:02:00] Speaker B: This is important because many Christians think they must pretend to be completely confident all the time.
But God already knows what is in your heart.
You do not need to hide your questions from him.
You can pray, Lord, I believe.
Help me where I am struggling.
That is a prayer God can answer.
[00:02:24] Speaker C: 2.
[00:02:24] Speaker B: Bring your doubts honestly to God.
[00:02:27] Speaker C: When doubt comes, do not run away from God.
[00:02:30] Speaker B: Run toward him.
David did this repeatedly in the psalms.
In Psalm 13 he asked, how long, Lord, will you forget me forever?
David was confused.
He was hurting.
[00:02:45] Speaker C: He felt as though God was distant.
But he continued to bring his questions to God.
[00:02:51] Speaker B: You can do the same.
Tell God when you are confused.
[00:02:56] Speaker C: Tell him when you are afraid.
[00:02:58] Speaker B: Tell him when you are disappointed.
Tell him when you are struggling to understand.
February 11th you can pray. Father, I do not understand what is happening, but I need you'd wisdom.
Lord, I am struggling to trust you.
Please strengthen my faith.
[00:03:16] Speaker C: God, help me understand your truth.
[00:03:18] Speaker B: Honest prayer is better than pretending.
God does not need you to impress him.
He wants you to come to him.
[00:03:30] Speaker C: 3. Build your faith through God's word.
Romans 10:17 says, Faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the Word about Christ.
If you want to overcome doubt, you must continually fill your mind with God's truth.
Doubt often grows when fear becomes louder than Scripture.
[00:03:49] Speaker B: Fear says, you are alone.
But God's Word says, never will I leave you, never will I forsake you.
Fear says, you cannot survive this.
[00:03:59] Speaker C: But Isaiah 41:10 says, do not fear, for I am with you.
[00:04:04] Speaker B: Doubt says, there is no hope.
[00:04:06] Speaker C: But God's Word continually points us toward the hope we have in Christ.
[00:04:11] Speaker B: The more you know Scripture, the more prepared you are to recognize lies.
This is why you must be careful
[00:04:16] Speaker C: about what you allow to shape your thinking.
March 11 if you spend all day consuming fear, anger, negativity and doubt, these influences can affect your spiritual life.
But when you consistently read God's Word, your faith is strengthened by truth.
[00:04:35] Speaker B: 4 Remember God's faithfulness.
Doubt often causes you to focus entirely on your current problem.
[00:04:43] Speaker C: You forget the prayers God has already answered.
[00:04:46] Speaker B: You forget the times he protected you.
You forget the doors he opened.
[00:04:52] Speaker C: You forget the strength he gave you.
Psalm 77, verse 11 says, I will remember the deeds of the Lord. Yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago.
[00:05:02] Speaker B: Remembering God's faithfulness can strengthen your faith.
Take time to look back.
Ask yourself, what has God brought me through?
What prayers has God answered?
What situations did I think would destroy me but God helped me overcome?
[00:05:18] Speaker C: Your past experiences with God's faithfulness can give you courage for your present circumstances.
The God who helped you before has not changed.
[00:05:31] Speaker B: 5 examine the source of your doubt.
Sometimes you need to ask, why am I doubting?
Doubt can come from many sources.
[00:05:40] Speaker C: Perhaps you are experiencing for unanswered prayer disappointment, grief, fear, confusion, spiritual exhaustion, a difficult Bible question, negative influences, a painful experience. Understanding the source of your doubt can help you deal with it wisely.
[00:05:53] Speaker B: For example, sometimes a person says, I doubt that God is good.
[00:05:58] Speaker C: But the deeper issue may be, I am hurting because God did not answer my prayer the way I expected.
[00:06:04] Speaker B: That is a different struggle.
[00:06:06] Speaker C: It may require honest prayer, healing, patience and a deeper understanding of God's character.
Do not simply condemn yourself for having questions.
[00:06:15] Speaker B: Examine them.
Bring them to God.
Seek biblical answers.
Six ask God for wisdom.
[00:06:28] Speaker C: James 1:5 says, if any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault.
[00:06:35] Speaker B: God is not afraid of your questions.
[00:06:38] Speaker C: He is not threatened by your desire to understand.
[00:06:41] Speaker B: If you are confused, ask for wisdom.
Ask God to help you understand His Word.
Ask him to help you distinguish truth from error.
Ask him to guide your thoughts.
May 11 Ask him to help you grow in spiritual maturity.
A sincere question can lead to deeper understanding.
Never be afraid to seek truth.
[00:07:07] Speaker C: 7 Do not allow your feelings to become your final authority Your feelings are
[00:07:12] Speaker B: real, but your feelings are not always reliable.
You may feel that God is far away, but he may be closer than you realize.
You may feel that your prayers are not being heard, but God's silence does not mean he is absent.
You may feel that everything is hopeless, but your feelings do not determine what
[00:07:34] Speaker C: God is capable of doing.
[00:07:37] Speaker B: Feelings change.
God's Word does not.
This is why faith means trusting God's truth even when your emotions are struggling.
Psalm 56, verse 3 says, When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.
[00:07:50] Speaker C: Notice that the verse does not say, when I am afraid, I pretend that I am not afraid.
[00:07:55] Speaker B: It says, when I am afraid, I
[00:07:57] Speaker C: put my trust in you.
You can be afraid and still trust God.
[00:08:02] Speaker B: You can have questions and still seek God.
You can feel weak and still hold on to faith.

Not merely to your emotions, not merely to your circumstances, not merely to your failures.
[00:10:01] Speaker C: Look to Christ.
[00:10:03] Speaker B: Jesus understands weakness.
He understands suffering.
He understands temptation.
He understands grief.
He understands what it means to face difficulty.
